Transitions

“Not in his goals but in his transitions man is great.”
–Ralph Waldo Emerson

It’s not just surviving transitions that matter; most of us end up doing that whether we want to or not—it’s capturing these moments as opportunities to thrive.

There are the life transitions that have obvious loss attached to them such as divorce, death, job losses, experiencing an empty nest or the ending of something important. But there are also transitions that seem as though they should be instantly gratifying that surprise us when we are confused after getting married, having a baby, graduating with a degree, moving to a new place or getting a promotion at work. Regardless of the transition, no matter how great or small it feels, they are enhanced by going through the stages, participating in intentional exercises and having a meaningful support system in place.

Emotions, self-identity questions and the life decisions surrounding transitions often catch people off guard as they find themselves shocked to be depressed after getting married, overwhelmed by their new role as a mom, upset that they can’t get over someone they swear isn’t good for them, concerned that they still don’t know what they want to do with their life or fearful of a new success in fear that it won’t be fulfilling or they might fail.

Currently working on a book titled A Grace Accepted Shasta’s research and story exploration centers around the cycles of grieving and embracing the many changes in our lives.   Whether we’re excited about a specific “good-bye” or dreading it—the stress and process of learning from it, appreciating that which was good and letting go of that which was hurtful is crucial to healthy growth.  So often we make the mistake of just “trying to move on” or “putting it behind us” without having the necessary funerals, affirming the value or giving attention to the wounds.

What transition are you facing?  Shoot me a few lines and let’s start the dialogue to see if I can be of value to your journey…
